LiteratureCritical Writing and Reading I: Grades 9-11These critical writing and reading courses are designed to help students improve their reading and composition skills by introducing and developing strategies for academic success that are useful in mastering the appropriate grade level literature introduced in the BPS ELA curriculum. Through a variety of reading and writing activities, students will gain a metacognitive awareness of the multiple literacy skills that they engage in on a daily basis. Ultimately, the courses will demonstrate how a focus on critical literature can transform student learning outcomes. Critical Writing and Reading II–Understanding How Race, Culture, Identity, and Achievement Impacts LearningFor juniors and seniors only, this course is designed to help students focus on building their intellectual knowledge regarding their own identity and how race, culture, identity and achievement impacts them as learners and the influences these forces could have on them as teachers. Student will be expected to create a publishable piece of writing that illustrates their reflective learning.
