Field Placement

Field Placement provides Teacher Bound students with the experience of student-teaching in a Boston Public School summer school elementary classroom. Each student will work with a cooperating teacher to plan one-on-one and small group lessons with the pupils and then meet with the teacher to debrief about the lessons and to provide feedback and suggestions for improvement. Teachers will also provide written evaluations of Teacher Bound students for student feedback and program evaluation. Through goal setting, each student will develop a learning plan that reveals evidence of growth in knowledge, skills, and self-awareness required to continue on the pathway towards becoming an educator. This seminar is designed to:

• Provide a forum for discussion and on-going reflection on teaching and learning
• Examine aspects of teaching such as classroom management, instruction, assessment, and personal qualities that contribute to effective teaching practices
• Support students in developing a learning portfolio that identifies learning opportunities and achievable goals that show evidence of growth towards developing emergent professional competencies
