Cultural Enrichment ActivitiesA sampling of the Summer Institute’s cultural enrichment activities: Digital Storytelling (DST)A unique and powerful reflective tool, DST supports students to sharpen their literacy skills and gain sophisticated multimedia skills in a meaningful context. Through the use of digital storytelling, students are simultaneously exposed to the latest technology as they engage in developing their own stories about learning and teaching. Summer Lecture SeriesThe primary goal of the lecture series is to inspire Teacher Bound students to continue pursuing their goals. The lecture series will provide students and staff with an opportunity to engage in rich dialogue and discussion about issues in education with leading thinkers in the education field. Students will learn about each speaker’s journey as an educator. John F. Kennedy Library and MuseumThe Kennedy Library is one of 12 Presidential Libraries administered by the National Archives and Records Administration. The John F. Kennedy Library and Museum portrays the life, leadership, and legacy of President Kennedy, conveys his enthusiasm for politics and public service, and illustrates the nature of the office of the President. Roxbury Film FestivalThe Roxbury Film Festival, produced by ACT Roxbury and The Color of Film Collaborative, is the largest festival in New England dedicated to screening films by, for, and about people of color. While the motion picture industry has historically eclipsed the works of independent filmmakers of color, the Roxbury Film Festival supports them by putting their works on the screens of important Boston-area cinemas. Abiel Smith SchoolThis historic space commemorates the history of African Americans from slavery through the abolitionist movement, with a focus on the quest for educational equality. This is the first building in the nation built for the sole purpose of serving as a public school for black children. This historic site has been transformed into exhibit galleries open to the public Monday through Saturday year-round. Tour of Boston NeighborhoodsThe Duck tour is a unique tour of Boston in a converted World War II-style amphibious landing vehicle. Tour stops include the State House, Bunker Hill, the TD Banknorth Garden, Boston Common, Copley Square, the Big Dig, Government Center, Newbury Street, Quincy Market, and the Prudential Tower. The tour provides students with little known facts and interesting insights about Boston.
