Letter from Director Chris Sumner

Dear Friends,

Summer is here and we are busy getting our Teacher Bound Scholars settled in.

Teacher Bound, the Upward Bound Program at Wheelock College has an exciting summer planned. Your scholars are living on campus for the next five weeks and they will reside in Pilgrim Hall. We will engage our cohort of 50 students from Roxbury, Mattapan, Dorchester, Hyde Park and East Boston, in academic development, vision casting, leadership development, and positive peer group experiences. Our activities include:

• Weekly classes in Critical Reading, Writing, Introduction to Teaching and Learning, Multimedia Literacy, Pre-calculus, Geometry, Algebra II, and Biology,
• College and career exploration,
• And a service-learning project in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Combining these creative programs with the countless hours our Life Coaching (Resident & Tutor assistance) pouring into our young people, we will motivate, mobilize, and equip our young people towards college access and success. These are the ingredients that make the soil of life rich for growth so that every child has the potential to develop socially, emotionally, academically, and economically. As you encounter our Teacher Bound Scholars, they will be dressed in gray t-shirts with our logo and creed proudly displayed. Please take the time to introduce yourself because they are a part on your community. If you have any questions please stop by the Teacher Bound office.
