Program HighlightsTeacher Bound Upward Bound concluded its second summer residential program. Highlights below:
Summer 2009 Program ComponentsAcademic Coursework: 180 hours (36 hours per week x 5 weeks)
Academic Tutoring: 90 hours (18 hours per week x 5 weeks)
Field Experience: 50 hours per student x 46 students for a total of 2300 service hours. Each Teacher Bound Scholar was placed in one of the following sites as a teaching assistant:
Summer StaffResident AssistantsResident Assistants oversee the dormitory and monitor program participants in the evening and overnight and are responsible for enforcing the Wheelock College dormitory policies. RAs will also coordinate recreational and cultural activities for program participants and provide one-on-one personal/academic counseling support. Recreational activities should include gender specific programming, cultural outings, life skills instruction, and wellness activities. Wheelock Students

Teacher Assistants45% of the Upward Bound Summer Institute staff were Wheelock faculty or students. Teaching Assistants serve as classroom helpers and are responsible for helping students that are struggling with classroom material. Teaching Assistants provide assistance to summer academic instructors in the classroom and provide support to students during their field placements. Teaching Assistants are responsible for their individual cohorts throughout the day and ensure that they reach their destinations in a timely fashion.
