Cultural Learning Upward Bound: Thursdays

On Thursdays students will rotate between three courses:

Identity and Culture

This course will provide each student with the opportunity to learn more about the societal influences that impact a person's identity formation and sense of self. The curriculum will include guest presenters and incorporate reflective reading, writing, and discussion.

Academic Support

This course is designed to help students implement effective strategies for analytical thinking and academic performance. The goal of the course is to enhance students’ academic skills in order to ensure college readiness. Sessions will focus on study skills, organization, effective reading techniques, etc.

Cultural Arts

Because it is our desire to educate the whole student we have added a cultural arts component. For their third course students will have the option of taking dance, visual arts, or martial arts.

Thursday workshops are mandatory and take place from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.

Mid year Retreat

The mid year retreat is designated as a time for students to rededicate, refocus, and review their goals and plans for the second half of the year. It is a time where we gather as a program to ensure that as a body we are seeing the “bigger picture”. Last year the themes were accountability, responsibility, professionalism, service and academic excellence.
